About Us

Peer into the greasy old Cattleyard crystal ball and fight your way through clouds of smoke, beer, pyrotechnics, hot dogs, lost thongs, cracked nails and ringing ear drums and you might sneak a peak at the genesis of our gypsy fiesta.

Rod and Steve were so caught up in their joint fantasy of a regional roving music tour at a party in Newcastle in 2003 they failed to notice those #@&^s!! steal their last beers.

On 24 April 2005 the banter became a reality known as Groovin the Moo at the Gloucester Showgrounds (NSW) when over 1,400 punters rolled up to see the Screaming Jets, Killing Heidi, Evermore, the Spazzys and a bunch of local and Newcastle bands. The show hit the road and pulled up at Narrandera in the NSW Riverina, to the glee of the 1,800 people who came along to cap off the end of the beginning.

In 2006 the Moo grooved around a bit, playing Maitland (Hunter Valley NSW), Albury (NSW) and Darwin (NT) – where Gomez (UK) played, the first international act for GTM.

In 2007 Maitland was the first GTM full house with Silverchair headlining, and the joint was thumping, as well as playing in Albury one more time. 2008 Maitland sold out again, and the band-wagon rolled up to Townsville (QLD) with the Presets juggernaut headlining.

2009 and GTM spread its wings to Bendigo (VIC) as well as returning to Maitland and Townsville over three weekends of magic and mayhem. 5 states in 2010 and newcomers Bunbury (WA) and Canberra (ACT) showed they can mix it with the veterans. The cream of local and international bands playing to sell out crowds across all venues – Bendigo for the second year, Townsville a third and Maitland for a fifth onslaught.
